Amaru

The remote community of Amaru is situated within the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 3800m. This community specialises in indigenous back strap weaving techniques, which originated from pre-Inca times. This technique has been further refined by generations of weavers applying their creativity to invent techniques and designs found nowhere else in the world.

ITV Peru has worked with the community since 2010 to help them continue to use and comercialise  their inherited back strap weaving techniques by blending their creative woven skills with our clients’ designs.

We have made bags, belts ,bracelets and straps, created with a combination of Amaru’s own wool to which they apply local natural dye, and alpaca and cotton yarn, which Trading Ventures supplies to the community.
