The majority of our hand knitting and crochet groups are also located in Lima or rather in the outskirts of Lima in the poorer areas. Knitting is traditionally taught to children in the Sierra of Peru where they need to keep warm in the sometimes intense cold and have alpaca fibre on hand in abundance . A majority of the ladies in our knitting groups have migrated from the Sierra in hopes of a better climate and better lifestyle for the families .Many are single parents and very much need work that can be done in the own houses while looking after their children and also benefit from meeting other women in similar circumstances and forming groups to teach each other the stitches and skills required We help our "jefas " set up knitting groups in their community and form their own co-operatives and companies ,and send in teachers to make sure finishings are correctly done and that they understand the importance of producing to spec and the concept of quality control . Our highly trained quality controllers follow the course of production from start to finish.
