Taquile

The natives of Taquile, known as Taquileños, are known for creating the highest-quality handcrafted textiles in Peru. The Taquileños’ textile techniques have been passed down through generations, originating with the Inca civilization. At a young age the male Taquileños are taught intricate knitting techniques, while the girls of Taquile are taught weaving and spinning  methods using vegetable dyes and weaving techniques on pre-Hispanic floor looms. These traditional textile skills acquired by the Taquileños ancestors provide an incredibly important social function within the Taquile community.

We are proud of having been able to collaborate with the Taquile community  Their exquisite textile techniques can take between 3-4 weeks to produce the end product, and so we utilise their skills only for clients who can deal with very long lead  times for both production and development
