Huamachuco has been a well recognised weaving community for centuries. This is where the Incas wove their ceremonial clothes The discovery of weaving tools during local archeological excavations, attests to the importance of textiles during pre incaic times.. We first became involved with this community through ADEX (Peruvian Export Association) who employed our skills to evaluate the quality of weaving and hand knitting to establish whether it was of an export quality standard.
We have been collaborating with one of weaving community in Huamachuco for nearly 10 years, which has resulted in a very strong relationship, . Following visits with two clients to the Huamachuco community, work started immediately on their projects.,and we were lucky enough to have Lady Gaga post herself on instagram in one of the ponchos made in Huamachuco for Ulla Johnson early on in our relationship .
We have newfound interest in hand woven goods right now so we hope to be able to continue giving work to these excellent weavers
